Tips for caring for your New Piercings

1. HEALING TIME

Healing time is the ‘recovery time’which usually varies.
Typically, Ear Lobe piercings take around 6-8 weeks, while ear cartilage take 12 weeks to fully heal. You’ll know your ear is healed once any swelling, redness or discharge stops.

2. CLEANLINESS

One should clean their piercings using saline solution or salt water by mixing 1 teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water.
*NOTE*– too much excessive cleaning might lead to dryness, irritation and piercing rejection.

3. AVOID SWIMMING

Avoid submerging your new piercing in water such as pools, baths, oceans! Showering is fine, just remember to keep your piercing clean, and rinse thoroughly of any residual soap.

4. TYING YOUR HAIR UP

One should opt tying their hair up, to avoid your piercings getting in contact, cuz hair carries natural oils and germs that can infect that area.

5. DO NOT TOUCH

This is the most common thing which people generally do not avoid. Just avoid touching your piercings, except when you are cleaning it, take extra care then.

6. AVOID CHEMICALS AND AFTERCARE PRODUCTS

Avoid using any aftercare products, oitments or chemicals like hair spray, lotion ,perfume etc.
It might cause itchiness and irritation.

7. AVOID SLEEPING ON THE PIERCED SIDE

Do not sleep on the piercing side, until completely healed,as it can cause irritation and prolong healing. Making sure your bedding is clean should be considered too.

8. ROTATE AND DOWNSIZE

After 4-6 weeks, rotate the earrings in the shower. When the piercing site is dry,it may feel crusty/sticky. It is important to have your initial earrings shortened to a piece that is more flush to the tissue after the swelling has passed.
